Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2–1 at Villa Park on Saturday, ending City's run of seven straight league wins to open the season.
Nicolas Jackson put Villa ahead in the sixth minute after a loose touch by Marc Guéhi. Erling Haaland headed City level from Iliman Ndiaye's cross in the 52nd, but Jackson restored the lead eight minutes later, meeting Ibrahim Mbaye's cross first time with a shot that went under Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Zion Suzuki kept City out for most of the afternoon. Sky Sports reports he saved from Rayan Cherki and pushed a Joško Gvardiol shot onto the bar, Ndiaye hit the post, and Ian Maatsen cleared a late Haaland header.
City stay top on 21 points from eight games. Unai Emery's Villa, who had not won at home in the league this season, move up to sixth on 11.
