Palmeiras reached the Copa Libertadores final on Wednesday despite losing the second leg of their semifinal 1–0 to Fluminense at home in São Paulo. Hércules scored for Fluminense late in the second half from Wesley Natã's pass, leveling the tie at 2–2 after Palmeiras's 2–1 first-leg win at the Maracanã.
Palmeiras scored all five of their penalties in the shootout, through Maurício, Gustavo Gómez, Ramón Sosa, Joaquín Piquerez and Marlon Freitas. Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel saved from Nonato, Fluminense's fourth taker, and Freitas scored the last kick to win it 5–3.
CNN Brasil reports it is Palmeiras's eighth Libertadores final; Abel Ferreira's side lost last year's to Flamengo. They will face Flamengo or Estudiantes, who play the second leg of the other semifinal at the Maracanã on Thursday after a 0–0 first leg.
