Liverpool beat Chelsea 6–5 on penalties after a 1–1 draw at Anfield on Wednesday night in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Morgan Rogers put Chelsea ahead from the spot in the 40th minute after Ryan Gravenberch fouled Moisés Caicedo. Three minutes later Cody Gakpo leveled with a penalty of his own, awarded when Fofana handled a Virgil van Dijk header.

In the shootout, Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders saved from Gravenberch and Kostas Tsimikas missed for Liverpool. Giorgi Mamardashvili saved from Chelsea's Emmanuel Emegha, and Fofana put his kick over the bar before Gomez scored the winner. Gomez has never scored for Liverpool in 278 appearances, Yahoo Sports reports. It was Chelsea's fifth straight shootout defeat to Liverpool, and Xabi Alonso called the League Cup "probably the least important competition."
