AC Milan beat Red Bull Salzburg 4–0 in Austria on Thursday in the second round of the Europa League league phase. Alphadjo Cissè headed in Omari Hutchinson's cross in the 15th minute, scored from Davide Bartesaghi's cross in the 32nd and finished a break set up by Adrien Rabiot in the 49th. Gonçalo Ramos, on as a substitute, added the fourth in the 72nd minute.

ESPN reports that Cissè, at 19 years and 358 days, is the youngest Italian to score a hat-trick in a major European competition. The previous mark belonged to Giancarlo Danova, also of Milan, at 20 years and 309 days against Olympiacos in the European Cup in 1959. ESPN and Sofascore both say it was Milan's first hat-trick in Europe since Filippo Inzaghi's against Deportivo La Coruña in 2002.

Filippo Terracciano was sent off late in the game. Milan, now managed by Ruben Amorim, lost their opening league-phase game 2–0 at home to Benfica.
