Palmeiras beat Fluminense 2–1 in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores semifinal. José Manuel "Flaco" López scored just before halftime from Joaquín Piquerez's cross.
Marlon Freitas made it 2–0 late in the second half, finishing first time after Felipe Anderson laid the ball back. Wesley Natã, on as a substitute, headed in Guga's cross in stoppage time.
Gazeta Esportiva's lineup lists assistant João Martins in charge of Palmeiras rather than Abel Ferreira; it did not say why. The return leg is next Wednesday, October 21, at Nubank Parque in São Paulo, where a draw takes Palmeiras through.
The other semifinal starts on Thursday, with Estudiantes hosting holders Flamengo in Argentina, according to the Associated Press.
