Matchday essentials

Everything you need to know before visiting MetLife Stadium

Fan tips
  • •Gates open two hours before most events, including NFL games; tickets are mobile-only and the stadium is cash-free.
  • •Clear-bag policy: one clear bag up to 12 x 6 x 12 in per person, plus a small clutch up to 4.5 x 6.5 in.
  • •Tailgating is allowed in the lots unless otherwise designated: one car, one space; no grills in the parking decks, no deep fryers and no open fires.
  • •The stadium is in East Rutherford, New Jersey; Coach USA's 351 bus from Port Authority takes about 20 minutes each way, traffic permitting.
Getting there

Transit

For large events (NJ Transit runs it when more than 50,000 fans are expected, which includes NFL games), take any NJ Transit train to Secaucus Junction and change to the Meadowlands Rail Line shuttle train, which runs about 10 minutes to a station at the stadium's front door. Coach USA's 351 Meadowlands Express bus also runs from Port Authority Bus Terminal for NFL games and other large events; smaller events have no train.

Parking

On NFL game days every vehicle entering the Sports Complex needs a pre-paid parking permit (Ticketmaster NFL Ticket Exchange); without one, the off-site lot at 20 Murray Hill Parkway costs $65, with a shuttle to Lot G. For other events, lots usually open five hours before the start, and parking can be pre-paid via ParkWhiz or paid on arrival.

Accessibility

Wheelchair/low-mobility and companion seating is on all levels; buy it through Ticketmaster or on 800-877-7575, subject to availability. Guests with limited mobility can ask any team member at the gates for a wheelchair escort to their seat.

Major finals

3 final matches: World Cup 2026; Copa América 2016; Club World Cup 2025.

Big nights, 2021–26

20 continental and national-team matches: Club World Cup 9, World Cup 8, Copa América 3.

Before this ground: Giants Stadium, open from 1976 to 2010 next door (this ground was built in its parking lot), hosted the Gold Cup finals of 2005 and 2009. Those finals count to it, not to this ground.

How it's measured

Each measure is a percentile rank among GoalPost's 222 stadium pages, and the stature is their average. Major finals: a World Cup, European Championship or Champions League final counts three; a Copa América, Copa Libertadores, Europa League or Club World Cup final two; a Conference League, Copa Sudamericana, Africa Cup of Nations, Asian Cup or Gold Cup final one; a final over two legs is shared between its grounds, and a ground built on an older one's site counts from its own opening (the old Wembley's finals are not the new one's). Big nights: continental club and national-team matches since July 2021, from GoalPost's archive. Home club: the best GoalPost Rating (GPR) among the clubs that play here. This season's matches are shown, not ranked.
