Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, announced his retirement from international football on Thursday in a video on social media, saying it was time to hand back Portugal's No. 7 shirt. He leaves with 234 caps and 146 goals, the most in men's international football for both, ESPN reports.
Ronaldo left the national team's camp in late September after a dispute with Jesus over playing time, and later said the coach had broken promises to him. ESPN reports the federation suspended him for 30 days. He continues at Al Nassr, where the AP reports he is expected to finish the season.
On Friday, Jesus named 28 players, seven of them new to the squad, for the last two Nations League group games: Denmark at home on Nov. 14 and Wales away three days later. Nuno Mendes is injured and Francisco Conceição is suspended, Playmakerstats reports via Yahoo Sports.
