Everton beat Newcastle United 3–1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday night in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

James Garner opened the scoring in the 34th minute from Hayden Hackney's pass. Hackney then scored his first Everton goal just before halftime, set up by Thierno Barry, and Barry made it 3–0 in the 69th minute from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's pass. Dan Burn pulled one back for Newcastle in the closing minutes and was booked, along with Joelinton and James Tarkowski, in a scuffle that followed.

Newcastle coach Matthias Jaissle said his side lacked "the clinical approach to solve the situations," Sky Sports reports. Jack Grealish was left out of Everton's squad after missing a training session, according to Sky.
