Jonathan Bamba (Chicago Fire), rated 9.4
Colorado Rapids had more of the ball, but Chicago Fire carried the sharper edge and left with the points. Morgan Whittaker put Colorado in front in the 22nd minute from Georgi Minoungou’s pass, then Jonathan Bamba answered before halftime and dragged Chicago level on the stroke of the break. After the restart, Bamba finished Jonathan Dean’s delivery to turn it around, Paxten Aaronson leveled it up again two minutes later, and then Chicago’s bench tipped it: Robert Lewandowski made it 3-2 from Philip Zinckernagel’s assist in the 74th minute, before Puso Dithejane added the fourth late on after being set up by Lewandowski. Bamba was the match’s clear difference, and the two substitutes who scored gave Chicago the last word. The result leaves Colorado ninth in the Western Conference on 43 points from 33 games, with Chicago fourth on 55.
