Match Report
Ajax took the points, but AZ Alkmaar had the better chances. Toluwalase Arokodare put Ajax ahead in the 9th minute, steering in Abdellah Ouazane’s assist, and after that AZ had more of the clearer openings without finding a way past M. ter Stegen. The Ajax goalkeeper earned player of the match with the kind of night that leaves a match score looking thinner than the pressure behind it. There were no red cards and no substitute plotline to change the shape of it, just Ajax hanging on to a lead they got early and AZ running out of edge in the final third. Ajax remain second in the Eredivisie on 24 points after 11 games; AZ Alkmaar stay fifth on 20.
